Unmissable tour in Rio de Janeiro: Ilha Fiscal reopens for visitors on July 8th

If you are looking for a special tour in the Marvelous City, the opening of Ilha Fiscal from July 8th for visitors is an opportunity to connect with the history of Brazil and enjoy stunning landscapes. The visit lasts approximately 1h45, including round-trip travel, which can be done by sea (schooner) or by land (minibus).

Surrounded by the waters of Guanabara Bay, right in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, lies the stunning small island, which is home to a true historical treasure and provides Cariocas and tourists with the opportunity to delve into a fascinating chapter of Brazil's history. The place has served as the setting for large events and luxurious parties.

Upon stepping onto the island, visitors are transported to the Brazilian imperial period. The construction is breathtaking. With just 1,500 square meters, the place is basically a neo-Gothic green castle, with its imposing pointed towers. The style, rarely present in Brazil, is the great charm of the building designed by engineer Adolfo Del Vecchio, which boasts stonework, English stained glass windows with heraldic figures and a mosaic floor made with 14 types of wood.

Fiscal Island has been listed since 1990. To carry out the renovation (which lasted a year and a half), the State Institute of Cultural Heritage (Inepac) demanded that the original color be maintained and that pull-ups were built before the island became a museum in 1995. , were demolished.

A journey through history:

Scene of the event that became known as “The Last Ball of the Empire”, held a few days before the Proclamation of the Republic, Ilha Fiscal continues to be a link between the present and the past. Decades have passed and the little castle, as it is called by many, which witnessed so many historical events, is today one of the main tourist attractions in Rio de Janeiro.

On Ilha Fiscal, the highlights are the Torreão, the exhibition rooms that cover its construction, the last ball of the Empire and the occupation by the Brazilian Navy. The new attraction is the Galeota de D. João VI (Galeota Imperial), a small vessel, powered by oars, which served the Portuguese Royal Family.

Be sure to include this historical treasure in your weekend itinerary and allow yourself to be captivated by the charm of Ilha Fiscal.
