Pier Mauá awaits the arrival of almost one hundred thousand tourists in February

During Carnival, four boats are moored simultaneously

Pier Mauá gets even more lively in February! With the arrival of Carnival, thousands of revelers will come from different parts of the world aboard beautiful ocean liners. From the 1st to the 29th, it is estimated that almost one hundred thousand tourists will arrive on 12 ships, with four returning several times. The forecast is an injection of US$ 30 million this month alone.

For the first time departing from Rio de Janeiro, from February 15th to 19th, the Emoções em Alto Mar Project will take place with singer Roberto Carlos on MSC Fantasia. The project began in 2005 with the aim of bringing together friends and admirers of the artist to share unique and unforgettable moments on board a cruise.

The Pier really heats up on the 22nd, Carnival Saturday, when four boats are docked at the same time, two of them international.

Of the ships that carry out short trips with different itineraries around South America, MSC Fantasia returns six times during the month; the Sovereign, seven; MSC Musica and Costa Pacifica return three times.

This season Pier Mauá is receiving the largest number of international liners in the last 20 years, eight of them in February alone. They are: Queen Victoria, Oceania Marina, Europa2, Hamburg, Island Princess, Volendam, Celebrity Eclipse and Azamara Pursuit.

Rio de Janeiro is the best rated destination in South America and the greater flow of international ships in the port of Rio is due to the evaluation of tourists who previously came here. “This is very important for us, because not only has the terminal been modernized and prepared to receive tourists, but the entire city is welcoming tourists”, says Alexandre Gomes, operations manager at Pier Mauá.

Also according to Gomes, since 2016, when the Olympic Boulevard was opened for the Rio Olympics, there have been no incidents of theft or robbery around the terminal, which also involves the historic center. “Operation Centro Presente is working, the Municipal Guard, BPTur, the 5th BPM are always supporting. Things have worked very well”, he concludes.

Tourists arriving in Rio during the cruise season are welcomed at Warehouses 4 and 5 of Pier Mauá, with embarkation taking place at Warehouse 4 where the check-in counters (entry registration), shops, snack bar, transportation services are located. currency exchange, telephone, internet, medical center, pharmacy, tourist information kiosk and services such as pre-paid taxis. The place also has partnerships with the VLT, ferris wheel and Aquario, all to bring more convenience to visitors arriving in the city by sea. Luggage handling is carried out in warehouse 5. Both spaces are air-conditioned and operate within international safety standards.

It is worth mentioning that since the brand's history began in 1999, Pier Mauá has been chosen seven times as “The best Passenger Terminal in South America” by the World Travel Awards, considered the “Oscar of World Tourism”.
