Cruise season 2018/2019 starts in October at Pier Mauá

Eight ships dock for the first time in the Marvelous City

From October 24th this year the cruise season officially begins at Pier Mauá, which will last until the end of April 2019. The forecast is to exceed 380 thousand tourists who will enjoy the Marvelous City throughout the period. In total there will be 103 dockings, 10 more than last season and the best part: eight vessels will be in Brazil for the first time, which is an achievement for maritime tourism in the country. Among the debutants in Brazilian waters we will have: AIDAaura, MSC Seaview, Celebrity Eclipse, World Explorer, Azamara Pursuit, Seven Seas Explorer, Viking Sun and Scenic Eclipse.

In addition to the newcomers, the season also features ships such as MS Zaandam, MSC Fantasia, MSC Orchestra, MSC Poesia, Sovereing, Costa Favolosa, Costa Fascinosa, Hamburg, Oceania Marina, Crystal Symphony, Costa Luminosa, Marco Polo, Ocean Dream, Royal Princess , Prinsendam, Veedam, L´Austral, Seabourn Quest, Phoenix Artania and Oceania Sirena which closes the season.

In the period from October 2018 to April 2019, long-haul ships also increased to 20, three more than in the previous period, and the number of vessels increased from 24 to 28. “We once again had a three-digit season. In the last one we had 95 stopovers and in this one there will be more than 100”, celebrates Alexandre Gomes, operations manager at Pier Mauá.

The International Cruise Terminal will operate in Warehouses 4 and 5, with boarding taking place in Warehouse 4 and baggage handling in Warehouse 5. It is worth highlighting the ease of access. Those arriving or leaving the terminal have access to a VLT station in front (Parada dos Navios) and the concessionaire's own parking lot, which is also located close to the Terminal, between Av. Barão de Tefé and Rua Souza e Silva, with pedestrian access. on Olympic Boulevard.

This year, the Pier Mauá concessionaire made more investments in communication, launching a new website, which will be available in four languages: Portuguese, English, Spanish and French, and the Pier Mauá app is now available in three languages: Portuguese, English and Spanish. Developed with the aim of guiding tourists to explore Rio de Janeiro in the best way, the application provides suggestions for various tourist attractions, means of transport and their respective journey times to the desired destination. Furthermore, it also allows quick access to the main useful phones for visitors and is now available on IOS and Android versions, just search for “Pier Mauá” to find it in the AppStore and Google Play stores.

First time in Rio de Janeiro

There will be eight vessels that will be at Pier Mauá for the first time during the 2018/2019 season.

AIDAaura is the third ship in the fleet of the German company AIDA Cruises to visit Brazil in history. Part of the company's new concept called AIDA Selection, the ship was dedicated to longer itineraries focused on exploring destinations. With destinations throughout South America, it has capacity for 1266 passengers.

MSC Seaview debuts as the largest and most modern ship to carry out a national season. During the season, it will take tours through Salvador, Ilha Grande, Búzios, Santos and Balneário Camboriú. It has capacity for 5400 passengers.

Celebrity Cruise is bringing the new ship called Celebrity Eclipse, the third in the Solstice class, and will schedule visits to Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Argentina. The company will present each destination through cultural experiences such as Argentine tango and samba classes. It has capacity for 3145 passengers.

Mystic Cruises' World Explorer is the brand's first expedition ship. It offers passengers unique, exclusive experiences with personalized service. Before and after the operation in Antarctica, the ship will pass through Brazil. It has capacity for up to 200 passengers, served by 111 crew members.

The Azamara Pursuit is returning and will join the regular visitors to the Brazilian coast. During its season in South America, the ship will make four itineraries passing through Brazil. It has capacity for 1266 passengers.

Seven Seas Explorer offers travelers two cruise options (one short-term and one long-term). On board it will be possible to choose between sailing to Buenos Aires, in Argentina, or Santiago, in Chile, and both routes depart from Rio de Janeiro. It has capacity for 750 passengers.

Viking Sun operates a 245-day world cruise. Billed as the longest continuous itinerary, the itinerary will include 113 ports in different cities, including a stop in Rio de Janeiro. It has capacity for 930 passengers.
