Last Saturday (1), HMCS Margaret Brooke AOPV-431, a Royal Canadian Navy patrol ship, docked at Pier Mau\u00e1 for a special visit to Rio de Janeiro. It arrived at 10am at Berth 1 and will remain in the city until the morning of the 4th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This stop is part of Operation South America Projection, a mission that marks two unprecedented feats: the first circumnavigation of South America and the first visit to Antarctica by a Canadian military ship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 103.6 meters long and 19 meters wide, the HMCS Margaret Brooke is part of the Harry DeWolf Class and was designed for patrols, surveillance missions and support for military and humanitarian operations. Since it entered service in 2022, the vessel has operated on different fronts, including an anti-narcotics operation in the Caribbean Sea and a mission in the port of Havana, where its presence played a strategic role against Russian vessels in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ship is now heading to Antarctica, where it will support Canadian scientific research, with a team from the Canadian government on board. This mission reinforces the ability of the Harry DeWolf Class ships to operate both in Arctic waters and in the extreme environment of the frozen continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
