The weekend is here and there is nothing better than strolling through the Marvelous City. Our tip is to take a trip to the Espaço Cultural da Marinha (ECM) to enjoy the beautiful landscapes, learn about its history and activities. The space has an exhibition area of around 1,100 m², located on Orla Conde, between Largo da Candelária and Praça XV, subordinate to the Directorate of Historical Heritage and Documentation of the Navy.
Installed in the old Customs docks, on an area filled in in the second half of the 19th century, the space was inaugurated on January 20, 1996. The place houses an important part of the Brazilian Navy collection. From the museum, boats leave daily for Ilha Fiscal, the place where the Ilha Fiscal Ball took place, and for the entrance to Guanabara Bay, where passengers can see various tourist and historical points around, such as Santos Dumont Airport, Aterro do Flamengo, the Rio-Niterói Bridge, Boa Viagem Island, etc.
The place has an exhibition open to the public with a very different and impressive collection. Among its “pieces” on display are the Riachuelo Submarine built in 1973 and which sailed 181 thousand nautical miles before being written off, the naval aviation helicopter - the Sea King, the great warship, the Ship of the Discovery of Brazil and a replica of the Portuguese ship from the time of discovery. The visit to the submarine is especially interesting and ideal for families with children.
