Lagoa Christmas Tree returns in free event

The traditional Christmas at Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas is back after four years, in a new format and with lots of new features! And as Pier Mauá selects the best tips for your weekend, we weren't going to leave our lucky ones out of this. Check out details of this event that will certainly be full of surprises and lots of fun for the whole family!

Lagoa Christmas 2023

The event, which started on Friday (15th) and runs until December 25th, is being held at the Lagoon space. And, in addition to the tree that now measures 32 meters in height and is presented in a fixed structure, there will be a Ferris wheel, Santa Claus's house, a light show and a gastronomic area. The tree will be on display until December 30th. This will be the first edition of the event and will have a maximum capacity for five thousand people simultaneously.

Attractions

One of the highlights of Natal da Lagoa is the visual effects show projected on a water screen, lasting 15 minutes, which will use the same technique used in Disney park shows. There will be three sessions per night: at 7pm, 8pm and 9:40pm. On the 24th, Christmas Eve, there will only be one session, at 6:40 pm.

Illuminated Christmas parades are scheduled, with 24 dancers performing throughout the event space and performing on the main stage. The confirmed presence is that of the good old man, who will welcome visitors to Santa Claus's House in an inclusive experience, with audio description and accessibility.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy an accessible Ferris wheel, with capacity for 64 people simultaneously.

There will also be performances by street artists, a Christmas fair with fashion and crafts, a gourmet area and inflatable toys. Free tickets will be available on site.

The Lagoon will also have an area for donating toys that will be donated to NGOs.

The project is sponsored by the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro, through the State Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy. It is made possible by the culture incentive law and is in partnership with Light. In addition, it receives support from the Secretariat of Tourism, Rio City Hall and Riotur.

Avoid traffic disruptions

There will be no parking on site – the Lagoon car park will be closed during Natal da Lagoa.

The best way to get there is via public transport, especially the metro. The nearest station is Jardim de Alah, which is one kilometer away. You can also opt for taxi or app transportation. And stay tuned, as there will also be traffic changes in the region: the South Zone sub-prefecture and Cet-Rio have set up a special scheme since yesterday. It will be necessary to divert the cycle path from the lagoon, in the section next to the Lagoon access.

The city hall asks that, “due to the expected impacts”, drivers seek alternative routes for their journeys, such as Av. Epitácio Pessoa, for example.
