Exhibition about Rio de Janeiro is highlighted at the Rio Art Museum

Showing the Marvelous City that beautifies itself and pretends not to see the outskirts, the biggest exhibition of the year at MAR opens this Saturday, the 25th, and celebrates Rio de Janeiro and the small everyday stories that give life to the city. The exhibition is curated by historian Luiz Antônio Simas and writer Conceição Evaristo.

600 works were chosen in different formats, including videos, objects, installations, photographs and paintings. The works reveal multiple facets of Rio, such as black pride, erotic nights, parties, meetings on crowded buses and fervor on the sidewalks.

Visitors can see creations by around 110 artists, with emphasis on the productions of Rosana Paulino, Bispo do Rosário, Lasar Segall, Di Cavalcanti, Denilson Baniwa, Laerte and Bastardo. Most of them were designed especially for the exhibition – only 79 were already part of the MAR collection.

MAR shows the face of Rio!

In parallel to the exhibition, MAR will launch the series “This is the face of Rio!” on the museum’s social networks every week. Composed of ten videos, the sequence will address the daily lives of Rio residents in everyday situations, commonly observed on the streets of the city. All content is in line with the exhibition’s proposal.
