Pier Mauá receives 67 thousand tourists in March alone

Pier Mauá maintains fast-paced maritime operations during the month of March. From the 3rd to the 30th, the place will receive 20 boats, eight of which are international, with more than 67 thousand tourists expected to arrive. Among these foreign ships, three will be in Rio waters for the first time, they are: Amera, Hanseatic inspiration and Koningsdam.

In this 2019/2020 season, Pier Mauá is receiving the largest number of international transatlantic ships in the last 20 years!

For Alexandre Gomes, operations manager at Pier Mauá, Rio de Janeiro has established itself as an international destination for maritime tourism. “The majority of ships that pass through here are long-haul, that is, they visit the city in the middle of longer itineraries, on large international crossings.”

MSC Fantasia will be based in Rio until March 9th (when it leaves for its return trip to Europe). With capacity for 4,300 passengers, the vessel carries out mini-cruises of three to five nights throughout the Southeast, trips of up to six nights to Salvador and Ilhéus, and up to nine nights to Buenos Aires and Montevideo.

MSC Musica comes to Pier Mauá three times, also doing short round-trip itineraries to South America, with its last trip being on the 28th, crossing with an Easter cruise theme going to Venice.

The Costa Pacifica, Sinfonia, Seaview, Costa Fascinosa and Poesia only come once during the month of March, most of which already have crossing trips.

International ships

During this month, eight international ships will pass through the port of the Marvelous City. They are: Silver Shadow, Insignia, Viking Jupiter, Seabourn Quest, Coral Princess. And for the first time at Pier Mauá: Amera, Hanseatic Inspiration and Koningsdam.

The number of foreign tourists to Rio from transatlantic ships has been growing each season.

“It is clear that international tourists are starting to look at Rio again. One cool thing is that tourists arrive, walk around, see the tourist attractions and then come back to get to know Rio de Janeiro more calmly. This season alone will bring R$ 500 million to Rio’s economy”, estimates Alexandre.
