Exhibition “Feminine Contemporary Art” brings together five female artists at Centro Cultural Correios

Five artists with individual works will share, until June 20th, at the Centro Cultural Correios, the exhibition space “Feminine Contemporary Art”, with different approaches to language and materials, curated by Tartaglia Arte de Rome, Italy, by Regina Nobrez and Riccardo Tartaglia.

This is an exhibition that highlights the role of women artists, in their different poetics, languages and invoices. Until recently, women, when they stood out in the arts, worked in the background, working as models. We certainly had – and we have – great female artists, who, breaking the barriers of prejudice and misogyny, managed to take their collection to the world – Frida Kahlo, Louise Bourgeois, Lygia Clark, Ligia Pape, Adriana Varejão, Rosalina Paulino, among others.

The exhibition 'Contemporary Feminine Art' brings multiple perspectives on artistic creation. The artists Beatriz Basso, Ilca Barcellos, Mary Dutra, Flavia Fernandes and Isabella Pedreschi establish a polyphonic dialogue between the rooms of the Centro Cultural Correios and interact through their works, installations, sounds, voices and personalities.

BEATRIZ BASSO – “Color, Gesture, Emotion… the Trajectory”
(Room C – 2nd floor)

Synopsis: The works of Beatriz Basso, abstract artist, are characterized by gestures, colors and textures, in different pictorial techniques, through which she explores and transmits the emotion placed within each brushstroke. Her art shows, in the strength and lightness of women, a force of nature, surprising the sensations of the new, the unknown and the imaginary. His series of paintings always bring a reflection in defense of the environment, a legacy of endless beaches, dense and immense forests, transparent waters and powerful waterfalls, experienced in childhood in a captivating way with a visual identity full of colors that connect to aspects of contemporary life through contrasts and concepts that nourish his work.

ILCA BARCELLOS – “Squatters”
(Philatelic Room – Ground Floor)

Synopsis: The term “Squatt” means, in English, the act of occupying unused spaces by people who do not have housing or by people who use them in their artistic manifestations. Artist Ilca Barcellos does exactly that: she appropriates the space of the Philatelic Room with her installation “SQUATTERS”. It is a set of fictitious beings – sculptures in ceramic and expansive foam – mimicked and camouflaged among elements of natural flora. Previously exhibited at the 2019 Curitiba International Biennial of Contemporary Art, in this installation natural and fictional beings come together in form, colors and/or texture. The poetics of life and the changeable occupies the predictable and fixed museum space. In addition to this installation, the exhibition also presents digital collages (called crossing-over).

MARY DUTRA – “Gone, time”
(Bistrô Room – Ground Floor)

Synopsis: The exhibition raises intense questions about time. Divided into three moments – observation of time, passage and existence – the basis of the exhibition is a plot of texts written on a typewriter with their slow physical appearance and loud sound, which allows for a solid time of thinking. Texts that delve into the scattered and confused subconscious of unanswered questions, which bring to light the unique way in which each person deals with their time. The paintings, installations, objects, words, sounds and videos are the visual expression of that time.

FLÁVIA FERNANDES – “Tactile”
(Room B – 2nd floor)

Synopsis: The “Tactile” exhibition features an installation with inflated objects, transparent and colorful columns that invite touch due to the softness of the material; two object paintings in fiberglass and resin, with colors and shapes reminiscent of nature; and some acrylic paintings on canvas that, despite being abstract, were based on the native forest near the studio, with its branches and leaves that intertwine creating shapes and colors. The viewer feels invited to stroll through this garden of colors and textures created and cultivated by the artist.

ISABELLA PEDRESCHI – “Reverbério”

(Art Gallery Room – Ground Floor)

The presentation of this exhibition is by historian and art critic Ricardo Muniz de Ruiz.

Synopsis: Reverb. That which reverberates. What hits us as a sequel. The look in the mirror that appropriates the image and throws it back. In the year when isolation is mandatory, looking inward is a viable option. Cars stopped, stores closed, doors locked and streets deserted. The female figure takes off her uniform and returns to her primitive self. Where do your thoughts go when you don't have a schedule to keep? Isabella Pedreschi's exhibition portrays women and the weight of the new daily life, a consequence of the chaotic pandemic scenario, with details that provoke reflection and a world of meanings.
