Porto Maravilha gets graffiti in honor of important female figures in Brazil and Germany

Our backyard is getting more and more beautiful with the graffiti murals. Nearby, on Orla Conde, in front of Rio Star, five female names were remembered for their stories by Niteroi artist Dolores Esos.

The initiative, which was named Brave Walls, is the result of a partnership between the city of Rio and the German Consulate and the honorees are important women in Brazil and the European country.

They are: Ruth de Souza, honored as the first black lady of theater, cinema and television in Brazil; Marlene Dietrich, honored for her artistic production and humanitarian collaboration during World War II; Almerinda Farias Gama, trade unionist honored for her high importance in the Rio de Janeiro and national political scene; Sophie Scholl, remembered for actively opposing the Third Reich during the Second World War and Tereza de Benguela, leader of a quilombo, who, for two decades, was at the forefront of the fight against the slavery of black and indigenous communities.
