Tattoo Week Rio 2023 reaches its 10th edition and takes place at Expo MAG (Sul América Convention Center)

Event promotes micropigmentation donation for women with cancer and trans men

One of the biggest tattoo and piercing events in the world has just entered the city's official events calendar, in a bill authored by Carlo Caiado, president of the City Council. On the 20th, 21st and 22nd of January, from 12pm to 10pm, the 10th edition of Tattoo Week will take place at the Sul América Convention Center, currently Expo Mag. There will be 250 stands from tattoo and piercing studios and companies, totaling 2,500 exhibitors, in addition to a gastronomic area, kids space and parking.

Tattoo Week promotes, in partnership with the Arte com Paixão Project, created by paramedical micropigmentation artist Ana Savoy and Tattoo do Bem, the donation of 80 eyebrow micropigmentation treatments and 20 paramedical micropigmentation treatments for nipple areola reconstruction for women with cancer and trans men, who lost their breast areola due to gender transition. In addition, 100 safety tattoos will also be donated to patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. It is worth noting that the paramedical micropigmentation procedure can only be carried out upon presentation of a medical certificate.

The event will feature more than a thousand tattoo artists and piercers from various parts of Brazil and the world, who will present their work and recent trends in skin art. Companies, in turn, will bring their newest launches in products and equipment.

9th edition of Tatoo Week

On Friday, January 20th, a public holiday in the city, from 12pm to 10pm, visitors will be able to enter the event for free only by donating two kilos of non-perishable food (except salt and sugar). Part of the food collected will be donated to Estação Primeira de Mangueira, one of the most traditional in Rio de Janeiro. The Rio Social Assistance Secretariat will also receive part of the food donation.

Competitions and e-book launch

The traditional tattoo competition in 27 categories, which takes place over the three days of the event, is the highlight of the event and always reveals great talents. “Brazilian tattoo art is internationally recognized as one of the best and most creative in the world”, highlights Enio Conte, creator of the event.

The event also features the Miss and Mister Tattoo Week competition, which attracts a large audience. The most beautiful tattooed men and women parade for the title. But the selection, in addition to beauty, requires commitment to art, posture, professional and personal talent and quality and harmony of the tattoos.

The 10th edition of Tattoo Week will launch in e-book format the “Manual of Good Practices for Skin Art”, a guide to guide tattoo artists, micropigmenters and piercers on how to carry out artistic work in compliance with laws and good practices.
